The St Dogmaels local producers market was established in 2009, in response to the growing need for fresh local produce from ethical sources. It was initially founded by Hanes Llandoch using funding from the Rural Development Project RDP, enabling the purchase of high quality market stall units and also assisting local producers to test trade new brands and marketing. The pilot study was a success both with stall holders and their new customers and the decision was taken to make it a feature of the St Dogmaels calendar. It quickly grew, necessitating further investment in additional stalls, to our current 18 + stalls.

Tchaikovsky’s famous opera based on Pushkin’s verse sung in English with Irish soprano Rosin Walsh (Tatiana), Welsh mezzo Sian Cameron (Olga), American baritone Ryan Ross (Onegin), Welsh tenor Seamus Begg (Lensky), Dutch bass Kees Huysmans (Gremin) and Stephen Welch (M Triquet) with Cor Aberteifi and the Dai Jarman Folk Dancers. Directed by PJ Harris, musical accompaniment by Nico de Villiers and design by Helen Elster Jones. Henry Ward conducts the chorus.
There is a 90 minute interval for picnics and supper in the Orangery.
The opera is based on Pushkin’s iconic verse novel, which re-imagines the Byronic romantic anti-hero as the definitive bored Russian aristocrat caught between convention and ennui; Tchaikovsky, similarly, took Western European operatic forms and transformed them into an authentic and undeniably Russian work. At the core of the opera is the young girl Tatiana, who grows from a sentimental adolescent into a complete woman in one of the operatic stage’s most convincing character developments.
